Accountability
Observation Survey
An Observation Survey of Early Literacy Achievement is the primary
assessment tool used in Reading Recovery. It is also widely used by
classroom teachers and researchers.
Measuring Outcomes
Reading Recovery’s evaluation system provides accountability for
every child’s progress.
Facts & Figures
Since its beginning in the United States in 1984, student outcomes
have been documented for every child served by Reading Recovery.
Detailed national reports are available on the
NDEC website.
Continued Progress
Follow-up studies indicate that most Reading Recovery students do
well on standardized and state assessments in subsequent years.
National Data Evaluation Center (NDEC)
NDEC is an ongoing research and evaluation project in the College of
Education at The Ohio State University. Data for each student served
in Reading Recovery is entered through NDEC’s secure website.
Reports are developed for each training site, school, and school
district.
Research
Reading Recovery is the world’s most widely researched early
literacy intervention. Online abstracts of Reading Recovery research
address its effectiveness, student continued progress,
student-self-esteem, cost-effectiveness, as well as research
reviews.
