The Reading Recovery network in Canada operates on three levels: schools, districts, and regional institutes.

The Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery
The Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery (CIRR) oversees the operations of Reading Recovery in Canada, including training and supporting training, and upholding the Standards and Guidelines.

Regional Institutes
Three regional institutes oversee the work in teacher training centres and schools. These include the Western Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery, the Central Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery, and the Eastern Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery.

History
First introduced in the provinces of Ontario and Nova Scotia in l987, Reading Recovery quickly expanded across Canada and today is implemented in boards/districts in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon Territory. Read more in a brief history of Reading Recovery in Canada.

Development of Reading Recovery in French
Canadian trainers, with the help of Marie Clay, redeveloped Reading Recovery in French in order to serve Canada’s French-speaking children and teachers. An Observation Survey of Early Literacy Achievement was translated into Le sondage d’observation en lecture-écriture (Clay, 2003). Lessons are offered under the name Intervention préventive en lecture-écriture.

Standards and Guidelines for Reading Recovery in Canada
Standards and Guidelines are essential to ensure the quality of services and successful results for children and schools.

Data
More than 100,000 children have been served in Reading Recovery in Canada. See the 2005–2006 Executive Data Summary.

Marie M. Clay Canadian Memorial Fund
