Reading Recovery: An Analysis of a Research-Based Reading
Intervention
Gay Su Pinnell
The Ohio State UniversityNoted researcher and author, Gay Su
Pinnell, analyzed research identified as “systematic and replicable”
from three sources:
- The National Research Council Committee of the Prevention of
Reading Difficulties in Young Children,
- Related research by the National Institute of Child Health
and Human Development, and
- Other notable researchers.
Using this research, Pinnell identified
ten principles for
effective intervention with students who are having difficulty with
beginning reading and writing.
The result of Pinnell’s analysis is a handbook that describes ten
principles for effective intervention with students who are having
difficulty with beginning reading and writing. Pinnell discusses the
Reading Recovery lesson in relation to each research principle.
