Description:
We are seeking a self-motivated, collaborative individual to assist the Consortium’s senior teacher leader in the supervision and ongoing instruction of 53 trained Reading Recovery teachers; provision of training classes for Reading Recovery teacher candidates; and systemic implementation of early literacy best practices within ECVLC schools. Requires significant travel within the region daily and occasionally to out-of-region locations.

If not already trained as a Reading Recovery teacher leader, the selected candidate will successfully train as a teacher leader at Lesley University, Cambridge, MA during the 2008-2009 school year. This position requires a five-year commitment. If the teacher resigns from the position prior to completing five full years as the Reading Recovery teacher leader, all educational, training, travel, and workshop expenses incurred, whether grant or district funded, will be reimbursed to the district.

Following the training year, the selected candidate will:

  • Teach four Reading Recovery students daily in a member host school
  • Train a class of Reading Recovery teachers during the first, and any subsequent, year as the need arises
  • Implement Reading Recovery in existing and new schools/districts
  • Visit teachers-in-training and trained teachers to observe and to demonstrate teaching techniques
  • Collect data; assist in data anlaysis and in the preparation of the annual site report
  • Participate in/provide a variety of professional development activities
  • Serve as a resource for best practices in reading for member administrators and teachers

This position follows the school year calendar (mid-August – mid-June). Compensation is dependent on qualifications and experience; a generous benefits package includes vacation, personal and medical leave, paid holidays, comprehensive insurance plan, and TIAA-CREF retirement plan equaling 12% of annual salary.

Qualifications:
Requirements include a master’s degree in education or a related field, with at least three years of classroom teaching experience. Must possess, or be eligible to secure, Vermont teaching licensure, and either be a certified Reading Recovery teacher leader or be willing to complete the year-long training toward attaining that certification, along with agreement to a five-year employment commitment. Must have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

The selected candidate will meet and adhere to the RRCNA Standards and Guidelines during the employment period.
